At Brookdale’s Knutsford clinic, we offer Fraxel Laser Therapy Treatment that works from within, working on the skin cells below the surface to smooth out lines and wrinkles. Fractional lasering (known as Fraxel) is perfect for treating your niggling problem areas.
How does Fraxel Therapy work?
We direct a non-ablative laser at the area to be treated, allowing microscopic shafts of light through the top layers of the skin.
The light energy stimulates the production and rebuilding of collagen and elastin which force the skin cells to go into recovery mode to naturally repair itself. This smoothes out wrinkles and scars, reducing surface pigmentation along the way.
Which areas can you treat?
Fraxel is most commonly used to rejuvenate the face, but is equally effective on crepe-like hands, areas of scarring, stretchmarks and areas of keratosis. It’s also excellent at combatting extreme cases of sun damaged skin.
How is Fraxel Laser Therapy Treatment carried out?
We apply an anaesthetic cream to your face for around an hour, which will minimise any discomfort. A full medical consultation is then taken. Then it’s time to relax in your treatment room; snooze, read or message a friend on the phone!
Next, a handheld laser is positioned over the area being treated. This takes around 20-30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. We round it off with a cooling blast of chilled air.
For a full face treatment, we allow 2.5 hours for your appointment, to ensure that you’re not rushed.
Am I suitable for Fraxel Laser Therapy Treatment and does it hurt?
Helen will assess you for suitability for Fraxel laser therapy. There’s no need to wait until a suntan has gone as the treatment picks up the moisture in the skin, rather than the pigment. Sip plenty of water in the run up to your appointment – the more hydrated you are prior to your treatment the better.
We are unable to carry out the Fraxel Therapy if you are pregnant, if you have a history of skin cancer, or are taking steroids.
We will minimise any discomfort using anaesthetic.
What can I expect after Fraxel treatment?
Immediately after treatment your skin will feel a little like sunburn with some swelling on the treated area. This may feel tingly for some hours afterwards depending on the individual’s skin condition. This is the perfect opportunity to have some ‘quiet time’. A few days later the skin will feel rougher as the dead skin layers slough off. After 2 weeks, new skin will appear and high sun protection will be required (SPF50 minimum). After 4 weeks, your complexion will be rejuvenated.
We recommend products containing hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C for aftercare. We particularly like Aspect Dr Redless for its calming properties and we offer a full range of suitable products for you to purchase.
Are there any side effects to having Fraxel Therapy?
There will be some mild swelling and redness following treatment which should subside naturally over a few days. Paracetamol should be sufficient to relieve this but do not take aspirin/anti-inflammatory medicines. In the unlikely event of further discomfort, Helen will be happy to advise you on the best course of action.
How many Fraxel Laser Therapy Treatments will I have?
In most cases you should see noticeable results after just one treatment. However, for best effect, we recommend a course of 3 treatments, around 4-6 weeks apart. As always, results vary by individual.
How do I book my Fraxel appointment?
Contact us using the online form or by phone to request contact from our expert Fraxel technician Helen, who will then discuss your suitability for treatment. She will fully explain how the treatment works, what will be suitable for you and your skin, and will answer any questions you may have. Then we can book your full appointment for Fraxel Therapy treatment.
