Liz McLean

After graduating from Manchester University Liz has spent the last 15 years working in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, During this time she gained fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons. Her time now is spent between running Oral and Facial Surgery clinics, both in hospital and in specialist referral practices, together with a great interest in Non-Surgical Facial Aesthetic Medicine.

Liz McLean has joined The Brookdale team and is fully qualified to administer wrinkle softening injections and dermal fillers. Liz passionately believes that it is essential to have a thorough working knowledge of the facial anatomy before injecting anything into a patient's face. She says a clinical environment is paramount. As a surgeon Liz is also able to carry out minor surgical procedures

Linda Wormald

Linda qualified as a General Nurse in 1979 at St. James University Hospital, Leeds. She worked both in this country and in Saudi Arabia specialising in Intensive Care. She began training as a Cosmetic Nurse 14 years ago with a large cosmetic surgery company.

She is passionate about helping men & women achieve healthy skin as she suffered with acne and consequently scarring for many years so fully understands how it can affect others.

Linda specializes in Dermal fillers spending years training and perfecting the art of the injecting technique, and then training Doctors & Nurses on how to inject fillers.

She is also trained in many other skin treatments, and a consultation without charge will determine the best treatment for each individual.

Botox and Collagen Fillers

BOTOX has in recent years grown beyond its 'Hollywood' reputation to become an acceptable, mainstream solution to addressing and managing the natural ageing process. By reducing the frownlines, laughter lines at the cornner of the eyes and worry lines on the forehead it is possible to turn back the years and gain renewed confidence.

How does it work?

As skin ages, lines and wrinkles start to form. These become permanent with repeated use of the facial muscles.

BOTOX temporarily inhibits the chemical transmitters that allow the muscle to contract. As the muscles relax they are prevented from creasing the skin and it is able to recover.

Muscles have a "memory" which gets used to familiar facial expressions eg. frowning, by preventing the muscles from doing what they are used to they loose their "memory" and further damage is prevented. The areas treated by BOTOX appear smooth and wrinkles are reduced.

How long does it last?

The effect can last for about four months.

What happens during treatment?

A very fine needle is inserted precisely though several layers of the skin and a small amount of diluted B*T*X is injected. Local anaesthetic cream may be applied to the areas prior to treatment and the procedure is relatively painless.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects are very rare, though bruising is the most common. There are others but all possibilities will be explained to you in detail before any treatment takes place. Botox® treatments are safe, effective and very quick. The results are not immediately visible but will become apparent within 3-10 days.

JUVÉDERM® ULTRA

Juvéderm® ULTRA is a new generation of dermal fillers from ALLERGAN, a world leader in surgical and non-surgical aesthetic products. It’s a natural, biodegradable gel that flows easily into your skin, instantly filling out those troublesome lines leaving a smooth and natural look and feel. So, you’ll notice an immediate difference after just one treatment.

Possibly the biggest difference is that ALLERGAN have asked patients what they want, the most common request is that the injection experience is more comfortable. ALLERGAN listened to this feedback and have added lidocaine, an anaesthetic commonly used by dentists and doctors for local numbing to Juvéderm® ULTRA in order to improve the experience, and results seen. The Juvéderm® family of products last longer than other formulas—at least 12 months due to the unique way they are made.

For treating scarred and pitted skin

In a skilled hand Juvéderm® ULTRA can be used for reducing and softening facial scars, either those from old injuries or from skin complaints such as acne. Scars generally form a depression in the skin Juvéderm® ULTRA is used to lift this area and blend it in with the surrounding skin.

An easy process in skillful hands

Juvéderm® ULTRA is quick, easy and in skillful hands, is performed with the minimum discomfort. Treatment visits should only take 30 minutes. Repeat treatments can be given whenever you see the need for improvement again. Sometimes these further treatments require less collagen than your initial treatment.
