INGROWING TOE NAILS
In-growing toe nails is where the edge or corner of the nail grows down and cuts into the adjacent skin of your toe, becoming red, tender and swollen.
It can feel as though you have a splinter and be extremely painful to walk and touch. In-growing toe nails generally affect the big toe, however, it is not uncommon for other toes to be affected.
They usually start with a small amount of discomfort along the side of the nail, at this stage it is advisable to ask the Podiatrist to look and ease the discomfort.
Younger, sporty and active people are more prone to have in-growing toe nails. Additionally it may occur from poor nail cutting technique or from wearing slip on shoes, socks or tights that are too tight. In-growing toe nails can also be genetically related.
If this is particularly problematic then we can permanently remove a small section of nail to completely resolve the troublesome nail.
BIOMECHANICAL ASSESSMENT
The biomechanical assessment involves the Podiatrist looking at the way you walk from the head right down to your toes, generally focusing on the lower limb.
We also carry out weight bearing and non weight bearing assessments. These are completely painless and will involve us moving your feet and sometimes legs through a range of movements to look at how your feet and legs are functioning in terms of movement.
If we are confident you will benefit from wearing orthotics then we will cast your feet at the same time as your biomechanical assessment.
You will benefit from bespoke orthoses if you are suffering from foot and heel pain, knee pain or wishing to prevent osteoarthritis.
Our orthotics are the most innovative devices in the UK. We use a mixture of hard and soft materials depending on the condition being treated and the biomechanical evaluation. An important part of our service is to make sure that your orthotics fit the shoe and can be accommodated easily. This is why we use differing grades of carbon fibre that take up little room in the shoe but offer maximum support.
